Rumours of our demise have, sadly, been accurate … well, until now that is!
Check out our latest episode that just went live today: https://www.planecrazydownunder.com/2023/02/28/pcdu-episode-131-reflections/
We’ve launched our first episode of Avalon 2017 coverage and it contains the following items:
You can access the episode and its show notes here: PCDU Episode 130: Avalon 2017 – Alpha
As if that wasn’t enough, previously back in February we’d also released Episode 129 which had both Steve & Grant going back to school on separate occasions. For this episode, Steve spent some time at his old Secondary Collage (Brentwood) with the RAAF F/A-18A simulator and then Grant spent some time with TVSA out at Bacchus Marsh aerodrome discussing options for learning to fly (and flying the very sexy Bristell LSA tail dragger :) ).
You can access the episode and its show notes here: PCDU Episode 129: Going Back to School.
The team at the Cast Away Podcast Awards have recognised that there’s a lot of great content being produced in Australia so they are holding the first ever Australian podcasting awards event. PCDU has been included in the Industry Focus section and we have a number of other great shows that we’re up against.
We’re also in the Popular Vote section (the Peoples’ Choice) where the public gets to vote for their favourite shows. This is your chance to help demonstrate that you’re a fan of PCDU by heading over to the page, setting up an account (annoying but easy to do) and voting for us. You don’t have to be in Australia to vote and every vote helps so the more we get, the more we’re likely to step up our episode production rate :)
Steve’s planning to attend the awards ceremony in Sydney on April 1st (no, really, that’s the date :) ) so expect a report from him in the near future on the event.
Remember folks, as our friends in Chicago like to tell us: vote early & vote often :)
Our friends at TVSA Pilot Training will be having an open day at the Bacchus Marsh airport near Melbourne on Saturday the 25th of February, starting at 10am and running until 3pm.
They will have a Pilot Panel with commercial airline pilots talking about their careers, a BBQ sausage sizzle and Trial Introductory Flights in the afternoon.
If you’re able to get to Bacchus Marsh airport for the day, you should.
Grant’s pulled out a big collection of ballooning interviews including discussions with military & commercial fixed wing pilots who enjoy the challenge of flying hot air balloons. We’ve also got a fun chat with Owen Zupp about his new book: Without Precedent, our tribute to Hannes Arch and the Infrequent Flyer finally gets to see TopGun (in 3D at the IMAX, no less).
This is our biggest episode ever (even bigger than Episode 51’s “Farewell to the Pig” tribute to the RAAF’s F-111s.
We’ve released out latest episode at last and it’s got a stack of great content, including some very detailed information about planning & performing the F-18 Handling Display at the Tyabb Air Show in 2014 and doing an F-18’s preflight inspection. All that plus information about the Triton and Fire Scout unmanned aerial systems, managing the C-17 in the RAAF, the Japanese Air Self Defence Force KC-767, MAF and Mahindra’s GA-10.

Light refreshments will be served.
A bit about Al
Prior to assuming his F-35 Chief Test Pilot responsibilities in 2011, Al was a Lockheed Martin Experimental Test Pilot for the F-22 Program for 12 years as well as Lockheed’s Chief Pilot for the TX program. Al has flown more than 6,000 flight hours in over 70 different kinds of aircraft. He was an operational F-4 and F-16 fighter pilot in the USAF in Korea and Germany. He served as an F-16 RTU instructor pilot at MacDill AFB for 5 years and then attended the USAF Test Pilot School in 1994. Subsequently, Al was an F-16 experimental test pilot for the USAF.
A big thanks to Lockheed Martin for making this happen.
Does Melbourne Airport have a policy covering use of their car parks for aviation photography? We speak to the airport’s manager of communications & corporate relations, Anna Gillett, to find out.

NOTE: This Quick Cast will be included in a future episode of the show but we wanted to get out it early for our friends in the Melbourne Airport Spotters group.
Team PCDU were at Avalon 2015 and they captured lots of great content once again. With three episodes already released, there’s still more content to go in a future episode or two.
As we release each Avalon 2015 episode we’ll include a link below:
